Researchers at Black Hat show AI browsers can spam WhatsApp
Cybersecurity experts just showed how hackers can use AI-powered browsers, like OpenAI's Atlas, to send spam messages on WhatsApp.
This was revealed at the Black Hat conference on August 5, 2026.
The good news? WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption and security weren't compromised, so your private chats remain protected.
More than 20 AI browser flaws
Researchers found more than 20 security flaws in AI-enabled browsers and extensions from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Microsoft, and Perplexity.
These bugs could let hackers access files or even mess with password managers, kind of like old-school browser hacks.
After being alerted in January, OpenAI had already rolled out updates earlier this year for Atlas and is shutting down Atlas on August 9 while promising tighter security for ChatGPT's browser features.
