Scientists filmed a giant jellyfish for the 1st time ever
Technology
Scientists exploring Argentina's deep sea just filmed a giant phantom jellyfish—think school bus-sized and seriously mysterious.
This deep-sea creature can stretch over 20 feet, with flowing arms that scoop up food (no stingers needed).
The expedition also discovered the world's largest coral reef
This wasn't the only wow moment: the team also found the world's largest Bathelia candida coral reef and at least 28 possible new species, ranging from worms to anemones.
Only 118 sightings of this jellyfish have ever been recorded in more than a century.
The expedition was streamed live
The whole expedition was streamed on YouTube and Twitch, drawing over 17.5 million views worldwide.
Averaging 500,000 views per dive, the expedition shattered engagement records for the Schmidt Ocean Institute.
