Starlink vs Kuiper intensifies with Amazon's latest launch
Amazon's Project Kuiper sent 27 new satellites into space this week, all part of its mission to deliver fast internet to places that usually get left out.
The launch from Cape Canaveral bumps Amazon's total to 54 satellites so far—still a long way from its ambitious goal of over 3,200.
TL;DR
Project Kuiper vs SpaceX's Starlink
Project Kuiper kicked off in 2019 and is focused on connecting remote schools, hospitals, and businesses.
To meet US rules, Amazon needs at least 1,618 satellites in orbit by July 2026—and they're not messing around, booking over 80 launches (even with rivals like SpaceX).
With SpaceX also launching Starlink satellites just hours before, the competition for global internet coverage is seriously picking up speed.
