Study finds India pays $13,302 per kilogram to launch payloads
Technology
A new study says India has the highest cost among the major space powers to launch payloads into space, about $13,302 per kilogram in 2025.
That's way more than the global average, $3,868 per kilogram, and higher than what countries like the US China, or Russia pay to get their satellites up there.
India's smaller rockets increase costs
Researchers say India's rockets are smaller, so each launch carries less weight and ends up costing more per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the US has cut costs in part thanks to reusable rockets: SpaceX alone accounted for 75% of global payloads in 2025.
The space race is heating up as everyone tries to make launches cheaper and more efficient.
