Study suggests ChatGPT use for homework reduces long term retention
A new study out today suggests that leaning on artificial intelligence, or AI, like ChatGPT for homework could make it harder to remember what you've learned in the long run.
Researchers split 120 students into two groups: one used ChatGPT for assignments, the other stuck with old-school methods.
The group using AI finished faster, but when tested 45 days later, they scored noticeably lower.
ChatGPT group 5.75, traditional 6.85
The ChatGPT group averaged 5.75 out of 10 on a surprise test 45 days later, while traditional learners scored 6.85.
Andre Barcaui pointed out that while AI tools can save time, they might also make it easier to forget important stuff because you're not working your brain as much.
The takeaway? Mixing tech with hands-on learning might be the best way to actually remember what you study.
