US government labels Claude a supply chain risk
The White House is set to ban Anthropic's AI system, Claude, from agencies across the federal government, which a government department has labeled a supply chain risk, a label usually saved for foreign threats.
This comes after rising tensions between the Trump administration and Anthropic.
Some government departments, such as the Treasury, have already started removing Claude in anticipation.
Anthropic lawsuit
Anthropic isn't taking this quietly: it has filed a lawsuit saying the government's move is both unlawful and unprecedented.
It warns the ban could mean canceled contracts and serious damage to its reputation.
The administration says certain features in Claude could threaten national security, but Anthropic argues that banning U.S.-made technology over policy disagreements sets a risky precedent for future innovation.
