Venus and slim crescent moon align above western horizon tonight

Heads up! Tonight, Venus and a slim crescent moon will line up close together just above the western horizon at sunset.
They'll look almost like they're touching, about as far apart as the width of your three middle fingers held at arm's length against the evening sky, and you'll only have about an hour to spot them before they disappear.
Earthshine visible and regional occultation
If you look closely, you might notice a soft glow on the moon's dark side called earthshine: that's sunlight bouncing off Earth.
And for folks in parts of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and southern India early tomorrow, there's an extra treat: the moon will actually pass right in front of Venus in an occultation.
