Vishal Sikka urges India to build AI foundation models
Vianai Systems founder and CEO Vishal Sikka thinks India should start building its own AI foundation models instead of relying on tech from abroad.
He says this is especially important as global restrictions tighten and India's role in tech grows.
Sikka also gave a thumbs-up to HCLTech for investing in Sarvam, an Indian AI company, calling it a smart move for boosting local innovation.
Sikka warns India about foreign AI
Sikka warns that depending on foreign AI can be risky: AI is now tied to national sovereignty and there are still big challenges like high power use and weird "hallucinations."
With only about 5,000 experts worldwide who can build these advanced models, he believes India needs to invest in talent and long-term bets so that India can help shape the country's future in AI.
