Waymo pulls back robotaxi software after school bus slip-ups
Waymo, Alphabet's self-driving car company, is recalling its robotaxi software after a car struggled to handle a stopped school bus in Atlanta.
Even though they pushed out a fix on November 17, 2025, Waymo decided an official recall early next week is the best way to fully address the problem and keep things safe.
What's going on and how Waymo is handling it
After 19 cases of Waymo cars illegally passing stopped school busses were reported in Austin this year, US safety officials started looking into it.
No one was hurt, but Waymo's Chief Safety Officer Mauricio Pena acknowledged there's room to do better, stating, "holding the highest safety standards means recognizing when our behavior should be better."
This recall follows two others last year and shows Waymo is still working hard to make their robotaxis safer for everyone.
