Apple to cut iPhone Air production amid weak sales
What's the story
Apple is reportedly planning to cut the production of its iPhone Air model, owing to lackluster sales performance. The information comes from Japan's Mizuho Securities, which has observed a trend in Apple's sales figures, The Elec reports. The firm also notes that the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are doing better than their predecessors in the same period last year, and the standard iPhone 17 is a major hit. Only the iPhone Air seems to be the exception.
Production boost
Increase in production of other models
Mizuho Securities says Apple plans to reduce the iPhone Air production by one million units this year. Meanwhile, the production of all other iPhone models will be increased by two million units. The overall production forecast for the iPhone 17 series has been revised upward from 88 million units to 94 million units for early 2026. This adjustment reflects Apple's confidence in the success of its latest iPhone models, despite the underwhelming performance of one variant.

Samsung halts launch of Galaxy S25 Edge successor
The news of Apple's production cut comes as another tech giant, Samsung, has also halted plans to launch a successor to its iPhone Air rival, the Galaxy S25 Edge. This decision was also made due to poor sales performance. However, in China, the iPhone Air sold out within hours amid disappointing sales in Western countries last month.
