    Xiaomi to launch Android Go-based Redmi Go in India tomorrow

    Xiaomi will launch its much-awaited budget smartphone the Redmi Go, in India on March 19. The phone, recently unveiled in the Philippines, comes as the company's first ever Android Go-based handset. It comes with an HD display, long-lasting battery, basic-level internals including Snapdragon 425 processor, dedicated expandable storage and a front-and-rear camera. Here's all about Redmi Go.

    Xiaomi Redmi Go: At a glance

    Redmi Go sports prominent bezels up front while the back looks clean with a single rear camera. It offers 5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) touchscreen display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 296ppi. In the camera department, the phone offers an 8MP (f/2.0) rear camera capable of recording videos at 1080p and a 5MP (f/2.2) selfie camera.

    Under the hood

    The Redmi Go is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. The smartphone packs a 3,000mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition). Notably, the operating system, Android Go is optimized for low-end budget phones with 1GB of RAM or less.

    Connectivity options and sensor details

    In terms of connectivity, the Redmi Go supports dual-SIMs with 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Hotspot. The smartphone comes equipped with GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, micro-USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Further, Redmi Go offers all standard sensors such as an accelerometer, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor. However, it lacks a fingerprint scanner.

    Redmi Go is expected to cost Rs. 5,000

    Redmi Go will be officially launched in India tomorrow, i.e. on March 19. It will be offered in two colors- black and blue. It was launched in the Philippines this January at a price tag of PHP 3,990 (approx Rs. 5,400) and is expected to cost around Rs. 5,000 in India.
