  • Hosts Australia put in a commendable shift at home as they piled on the runs in the opening innings of the first Test against Pakistan in Brisbane.

    While Australia lead by a healthy margin of 276 runs, Pakistan are struggling to stay alive in the Test.

  • As young Pakistani pace sensation, Naseem Shah received his cap on Thursday, he scripted history by becoming the youngest to debut in Australia, at the age of 16 years and 279 days.

    He went pas Ian Craig, who debuted at the age of 17.

    Overall, he is the ninth youngest to debut in Tests and the eleventh player to debut before turning 17.

  • On the opening day, Pakistani openers Azhar Ali and Shan Masood were off to a decent start, scoring 75 runs.

    In the process, the pair also scripted the best opening stand for the side in Brisbane, going past the previous record of 72, between Mohsin Khan and Mudassar Nazar in 1981.

    It was also the highest first innings opening stand against Australia in Brisbane.

    While he faced 83 deliveries in this Test, his record for the same is of 93 deliveries, against this very side in 2017, in Sydney.

  • Meanwhile, explosive Australian opener David Warner scripted quite a few records with his 22nd Test century, as this was his first Test century in 18 innings.

    In the process, he also scored his fourth Test century in Brisbane and it was his 16th Test century in Australia, while it was also his fourth Test ton against Pakistan.

  • Besides scoring his century, Warner and Joe Burns rocked it with a 222-run partnership, as it was the pair's third and second-best partnership at the venue.

    It was also the fourth-best partnership at this venue, as the record for the same lies with Greg Blewett and Michael Slater, of 269, against Pakistan as well.

  • After winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan were bundled out for 240, courtesy Mitchell Starc's 4/52.

    In reply, Australia were ruthless as they posted a mammoth total of 580, courtesy twin centuries by Warner (154) and Labuschagne (185).

    As of now, Pakistan have lost three wickets in the second innings, while they are still 250-plus runs behind.
