West Indies vs Bangladesh: Mustafizur Rahman ruled out with injury
Bangladesh have named a 15-member squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies, which is scheduled for next month. Pacer Mustafizur Rahman misses out due to a toe injury. This is a big blow to Bangladesh, given Rahman's wicket-taking abilities. The 22-year-old youngster had suffered an injury while playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2018 season.
Injury had forced Rahman to miss the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, which was held in Dehradun. The promising player had impressed during his spell at Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin stated that, barring a miracle, Mustafizur will not be ready and that's the reason he has been left out. In 10 Tests, Mustafizur has 26 wickets.
Two Tests are to be played between West Indies and Bangladesh. The first Test starts in Antigua from July 4 onwards. The second and final Test will be held in Kingston, Jamaica from July 12 onwards. Mustafizur has been replaced by right-arm pace bowler Abu Jayed. The inexperienced bowler has played just 3 T20Is for the Tigers.
Bangladesh need to be at their best if they want to stop Windies from making inroads. In the ongoing Test series, WI beat Lanka in the first match before drawing the second game, which was marred by controversies. Earlier, Bangladesh had lost the Test series against South Africa followed by a loss against Sri Lanka. The Tigers are not enjoying the best of form.
Here is the Bangladesh squad- Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim (wicket-keeper), Mohammad Mahmudullah, Liton Das, Mominul Haque, Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam, Kamrul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Abu Jayed, Nazmul Hossain and Shafiul Islam.
