Team India's security compromised in Chandigarh, ACU chief issues warning

BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) chief Ajit Singh on Saturday issued a warning to the hosting associations regarding Team India's security in the ongoing series against South Africa. The issue comes to light after Team India received inadequate security during their second T20I in Mohali, Chandigarh, while there were a couple of fan invasions during the match as well. Here's more on the issue.

Chandigarh Police denied Team India's security duty over outstanding dues

As Team India arrived in Chandigarh, it was shocking to see that no security arrangement had been made for the players by Chandigarh Police. Upon being contacted, it was said that the police had denied security over non-payment of their dues. Consequently, the hotel provided the security for the players on the first day, while police were back the next day.

Meanwhile, Ajit has sent a mail to all the associations, stating that any lapse in team's security won't be tolerated in the future. "Lack of security arrangement can be a major issue and can even lead to a dangerous situation because we are all aware that fans can sometimes go overboard in order to show their love for their favorite players," said a functionary.

The mail also contained the point urging associations to beef up security inside the venue to avoid fan invasions, as a couple of incidents occurred in Chandigarh on Wednesday. "To deter pitch invasions, security staff should be positioned between the boundary rope and the public fencing. The security staff should be positioned to face the crowd," the mail read.

"The security personnel should be placed at equidistant intervals around the boundary and be placed in the immediate vicinity of traditional boundary fielding positions including long-off, long-on, deep fine leg, deep third man, deep mid-wicket and deep cover," the mail further read.

India eye 2-0 in final T20I, Test series to follow

While India managed a seven-wicket win in the second T20I, they would be moving to Bengaluru for the final game of the series. India will be eyeing a 2-0 win, while Proteas would aim to draw level. Meanwhile, following the T20Is, a three-match Test series would follow as a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21.
