What's the story

Rohit Sharma led India to their third ICC Champions Trophy title on March 9. The 37-year-old slammed 76 as the Men in Blue chased down 252 against New Zealand in the 2025 final in Dubai. With this, Rohit became only the fourth captain to have recorded a fifty-plus score in the Champions Trophy final. Have a look at this list.

#1

Hansie Cronje: 61* vs WI, 1998, Dhaka

In 1998, skipper Hansie Cronje's brilliant effort powered South Africa to their maiden and only Champions Trophy honor. He slammed an unbeaten 61(77), coming in at number five, as the Proteas chased down 246 against the West Indies in Dhaka. Cronje's important knock lifted up SA, who were down to 137/5 in the run-chase. The late Hansie Cronje later lifted the historic trophy.

#2

Sourav Ganguly: 117 vs NZ, 2000, Nairobi

Two years later, Sourav Ganguly entered the record books in the Champions Trophy final. He smashed a 130-ball 117 against New Zealand in the 2000 final, guiding India to 264/6 in 50 overs. However, Chris Cairns's incredible 102*(113) helped the Black Caps chase down the total in the final over. To date, Ganguly remains the only captain with a ton in the CT final.

#3

Sanath Jayasuriya: 74 vs India, 2002, Colombo

Sanath Jayasuriya's brilliant 73(89) against India was one of the highlights of the 2002 Champions Trophy final. Although the final was washed out, the Lankan skipper's knock against a star-studded Indian bowling attack stood out. Jayasuriya's assault took SL to 244/5 in 50 overs. However, the match was washed out without a ball bowled in the second innings. The two teams shared the trophy.
