Liverpool thrashed AS Roma 5-2 at Anfield in the first leg of their semi-final clash of the UEFA Champions League 2017-18. Mohamed Salah scored a brace and set two more up as the Reds went 5-0 up before Roma staged a late rally to score twice. Jurgen Klopp knows his team has one foot in the final. Here is the match in numbers.
The Reds became only the second side to score five goals in a semi-final match after Ajax did it in 1995 against Bayern Munich. Salah and Roberto Firmino scored their 10th goal of the campaign, the most by a Reds player in one UCL season.
The Egyptian scored his 42nd and 43rd goal of the season across all competitions. He needs four more to break Ian Rush's record of 47 goals. Across Europe's top five leagues, Salah's tally (43) is the highest this season. Salah also scored in the fifth successive UCL game he started for Liverpool. Salah is five goals behind Real's Cristiano Ronaldo (15) in 2017-18 UCL.
Thi season has seen 384 goals being scored in the Champions League. In terms of goals per game, this is already the best season in Europe's elite tourney. Around 3.17 goals have been scored at an average per game which has come every 28th minute.
