Who is AC Milan's 18-year-old player Daniel Maldini?
Italian club AC Milan had witnessed two legends in the form of Cesare Maldini and his son Paolo. And now, Paolo's son Daniel Maldini is continuing the family tradition at the club. The teenager was called up to the senior squad for the first time for Saturday's 1-1 Serie A draw against Napoli. Here's more on Daniel.
Daniel is the third generation of the Maldini family at AC Milan. His grandfather Cesare, who died in 2016, played for 12 seasons and won four league titles and the European Cup. Cesare also coached the team twice in 1973-1974 and 2001. Cesare's son Paolo, was one of the greatest defenders of all-time. He won seven Scudetto and five Champions League trophies.
Daniel is an attacking mid-fielder, who had already participated in Milan's summer tour and also appeared for the junior team. The player recently extended his contract until 2024. He has also played for the U-19 Italy team. Daniel was born on October 11, 2001.
Milan have continued to struggle this season as well and it required Giacomo Bonaventura to earn a point against Napoli in the Italian league match. The hosts had lost back-to-back matches against Lazio and Juventus heading into Saturday's clash. They fell behind to Hirving Lozano's close-range finish after 24 minutes. Italy international Bonaventura hit back for Stefano Pioli's side with a goal.
The 18-year-old will need to wait for his first start for the senior team. He remained on the bench as an unused substitute at the San Siro for the former seven-time European champions.
