India vs Sri Lanka 3rd Test: Records broken

    What's the story

Sri Lanka put in a commendable display on day five to draw the smog hit third Test at Kotla in Delhi. The visitors scored 299 for the loss of five to draw the game.

However, India clinched the three-match Test series 1-0. This is India's ninth successive Test series win, a record in itself.

Here is a list of records broken during this match.

    Double trouble

    Kohli scores another 'Virat' hundred

Kohli's 6 double hundreds are the most by a captain.

He breezed past Brian Lara who had scored 5 double tons in 85 innings at the helm. Kohli has now scored 3 double hundreds in 2017.

He also scored 3 double tons last year. He is also the 6th player to hit consecutive double hundreds.

    Among the elite

    Record breaking captain

Kohli has now scored 3,000 runs as a captain in Tests.

He became the third captain to do so after Gavaskar and Dhoni. He is also the fifth fastest to reach the milestone having taken 50 innings to do so.

Kohli became the 11th Indian to score 5,000 runs in Test cricket. He is fourth fastest to the milestone behind Gavaskar, Sehwag and Sachin.

    Homecoming

    Kohli shines at the Kotla

Kohli's 243 at the Kotla is his career best in Tests.

He became the sixth cricketer to scorer hundreds in each game of a three match Test series. He scored 104* in Kolkata, 213 in Nagpur and 243 in Delhi.

Even Sri Lanka's captain, Dinesh Chandimal, recorded his career best scoring 164. His previous best was 162* at Galle against India in 2015.

    Run machine

Kohli smashes 600 runs this series

610 runs scored by Kohli, in this Test series, is the most for India in a series of three games.

Kohli went past Sehwag who scored 544 runs against Pakistan at home in 2005.

Kohli has averaged 75 plus in Test cricket in successive calendar years.

His 293 is a record for most runs by an Indian captain in a Test, eclipses Gavaskar's 289.

    Rahane's woes continue

    Rohit silences his critics

For first time Rohit Sharma has recorded 50 plus scores in five successive innings. He also recorded a strike rate of 100 plus for the first time in a Test innings scoring 50 off just 49 balls.

On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane has managed to score just 17 runs in this series. The Mumbai batsman scored 4, 0, 2 , 1 and 10.

    Top of the charts

    Pujara's purple patch

Pujara run tally of 1140 at an average of 67.05 is the most this year in Tests. Pujara scored four tons and five fifties in his 11 Tests, eclipsing SA's Dean Elgar's tally of 1097.

India had last lost a Test match at the Feroz Shah Kotla in 1987 to the West Indies. Since then, they have won 11 matches in the national capital.
