Articles about Dean Elgar

Despite being on the wrong side of fate at the beginning of his international career, where his first ODI was washed out and his Test debut was delayed by an injury, cricketer Dean Elgar has established himself as a mainstay in the South African Test side. He is not a batsman who can wow the audience with cover drives or square cuts like other left-handers, but he is a player with an airtight technique who relish playing on challenging tracks and make a statement with his numbers. Elgar made his first-class debut for Free State in the 2005-06 season. With the number of runs he scored, he finally came into the national selection radar. After missing his first Test series due to injury, he finally made his Test debut in 2012 against Australia. Although he was handed his ODI debut as well in the same year, he did not suit the format. After Graeme Smith's retirement in 2014, Elgar became the first-choice opener for South Africa. Over the years, he has become one of the toughest wickets to obtain for bowlers. His record of being the only batsman in the Test history to carry his bat through the innings three times proves that.
