Articles about Dinesh Chandimal
One of the most promising cricketers to wear Sri Lankan colors in the last decade, Dinesh Chandimal, was a run-machine in school and college cricket. He came into the limelight with his performances for the U-19 side. A century against India and England showed the talent he had. A maiden first-class century against New Zealand while playing for Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI certainly put him in contention for a national team spot. A swashbuckling right-hander, Chandimal made his international debut at the age of 21 in the 2010 World T20. In the same year, he made his ODI debut and scored his maiden century in his second match. The next few years saw Chandimal's meteoric rise in the Sri Lankan team. Consistency in all three formats of the game culminated in him being named Sri Lanka's youngest ever captain in ODIs at the age of 23, in the absence of Angelo Mathews. In 2017, he was appointed as Sri Lanka's Test captain. In his second Test series as captain, he led Sri Lanka to their first day-night Test win. Chandimal has scored eleven hundreds in Tests and four centuries in ODIs, as of 2021.
