Day/Night Test: India on top against Sri Lanka
The Indian cricket team is on top against Sri Lanka in the ongoing second Test in Bengaluru. India dominated the proceedings on Day 2. Resuming on 86/6, SL were folded for 109. India declared at 303/9 in their second innings to set a target of 446. In response, the visitors have started poorly in a massive run-chase.
How did Day 2 pan out?
SL managed just 23 runs in the start of the day, losing four wickets. Jasprit Bumrah completed a sensational fifer. In response, India saw Rohit Sharma score 46. The likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer smashed impressive fifties. Pant toyed with the bowlers as Iyer got another fifty, playing a positive knock. Lanka have lost two wickets in response.
Eighth fifer for Bumrah
Bumrah, who claimed three wickets on Saturday, took another two to complete a fifer. As per Cricbuzz, Bumrah now has two fifers each in West Indies, England and South Africa, besides one each in Australia and India. This was Bumrah's eighth fifer in 29 Tests. Only Kapil Dev had as many among Indian seamers at the same point in career.
India were reduced to 139/4
Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma gave India an ideal start in the second innings. The duo shared a 42-run stand before Embuldeniya removed the former. Hanuma Vihari joined Rohit in the middle thereafter. Rohit departed for 46 as Vihari went thereafter for 35. India also lost Virat Kohli (13) to be reduced to 139/4.
Pant slams a whirlwind 50
Rishabh Pant helped India scored in excess of 100 runs in the session with a fine knock of 50. He hammered seven fours and two sixes in a knock of just 31 balls. He had a strike rate of 161.29. Pant had earlier hit 39 in the first innings. Pant slammed his ninth fifty in Tests. He now has 1,920 runs at 40.85.
Iyer smashes second successive fifty
Iyer, who hit 92 in the first innings for India, managed another impressive knock of 67. He consumed 87 balls, hitting nine fours. This was another mature knock by Iyer as she showed character once again in the middle-order.
