India beat West Indies in third T20I: Records broken
The Indian cricket team beat West Indies in the third T20I at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. Put into bat, India posted 185/4 in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was the top scorer with a 65-run knock. In response, West Indies failed to chase down the target. Nicholas Pooran did well once again but it wasn't enough. Here's more.
India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early on (10/1) before Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer added 53 runs. WI hit back as India were reduced to 93/4. From there on, Suryakumar and Venkatesh added a valiant 91-run stand. Their aggression helped India get past 180. In response, WI lost two wickets for 26 runs. Pooran threatened for WI with a fifty but India held on.
Suryakumar Yadav was sensational for India. He scored 65 runs from 31 deliveries, hitting one four and seven sixes. He had a strike rate of 209.68. Surya has gone past the 300-run mark in T20Is. He has 351 runs at 39.00. He slammed his fourth T20I fifty. He has a strike rate of 165.56. He managed his maiden fifty versus WI.
Venkatesh Iyer impressed for Team India. He hit a 19-ball 35*. Iyer slammed four fours and two sixes. Iyer has 128 runs from six matches at 42.67. Kishan hit a 31-ball 34. He now has 184 runs at 26.28.
Pooran hit 61, 62, and 61 in the three-match series. Tonight, he hit eight fours and a six. Pooran now has eight T20I fifties and four versus India. He has surpassed the likes of Kevin Pietersen (1,176) and Yuvraj Singh (1,177) in terms of T20I runs. He has raced to 1,193 runs at 27.74. He now has 335 runs versus India at 41.87.
The two teams have faced each other on 20 occasions in T20Is to date. India have won 13 matches. West Indies have pocketed six matches. One match didn't have a result. Notably, India have won 11 of the last 12 T20Is versus WI.
Deepak Chahar (2/15) has raced to 26 wickets for India in T20Is. He surpassed the likes of Harbhajan Singh (25) and Washington Sundar (25). Jason Holder (1/29) has raced to 39 wickets, equaling Andre Russell's tally.
As per Cricbuzz, Pooran is now the second player to hit three successive 50+ scores against India in T20Is after former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum. Pooran slammed 184 runs in the series at 61.33.
