India win series 3-1 against West Indies: Here're records broken
India won the ongoing ODI series against West Indies after the visitors recorded their lowest ever ODI total against India. Batting first, Indian bowlers wrapped up the innings of West Indies for 104 runs as Ravindra Jadeja registered four scalps. In reply, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli destroyed WI bowlers to win the match by 9 wickets. Here're the records broken.
West Indies batting fared poorly
West Indies (104) registered their lowest-ever score against India at Trivandrum, which is followed by their score of 121 at Port of Spain in 1997. The West Indies openers do not have a single 100+ run-partnership since February 2014, exactly 72 innings ago. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, who showed promise in this series, could not perform today, scoring 0 and 9 respectively.
Indian bowlers were ruthless today
Ravindra Jadeja notched up four wickets, giving away just 34 runs. He took the wickets of important players like Roach, Shimron Hetmyer, and Marlon Samuels. All Indian bowlers also managed one maiden over each.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli notch up partnership records
The pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is the 12th one to aggregate 4,000 runs (aggregate) in ODIs. It is the sixth Indian pair to achieve this feat and has done so in record time, taking 66 partnerships, taking 14 less than the next best. Sharma has also taken the least innings ever to complete 200 ODI sixes- 187 and 8,387 balls.
Dhawan's poor form continues
Shikhar Dhawan didn't performing well this series. His poor run continued today as well, with him scoring 6. He could manage only 112 runs in 5 matches, his least run-tally in an ODI series ever.
Sharma etches his name among legends
Rohit Sharma has now notched up 1,000+ runs in three calendar years- 2013, 2017, and 2018, playing as an opener. He is only behind four openers, namely, Tendulkar, Jayasuriya, Ganguly and Dilshan, who have scored 1,000+ runs in more number of calendar years. He is only the second Indian after MS Dhoni to slam 100+ sixes at home.
India's record victory margin
The match saw India's second-biggest victory margin ever in terms of balls remaining, with the Indian batsmen wrapping up things with 211 balls in hand. Their highest was 231 balls remaining against Kenya at Bloemfontein. The match took a total of 280 deliveries to complete, making it the shortest ODI in India. The previous was Kenya vs New Zealand in 2011.
