India record fastest fifty, hundred in Test history: Key stats
In a thrilling showcase of batting skills, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped India set new records in the ongoing 2nd Test against Bangladesh at Kanpur's Green Park. Their aggressive play led India to 100 in just 10.1 overs, now the fastest team hundred in Test history. India earlier also recorded the fastest-ever team half-century in the format. It all happened on Day 4 after rain had washed out two consecutive days. Bangladesh perished for 233 earlier in the day.
India shatter England's fastest team 50 record
India have now overtaken England's record set in July, reaching a team total of 50 runs in just 18 balls, which is the quickest in Test cricket history. This marks the first instance of a team scoring 50 runs inside the first three overs of a Test. England had previously set the record, taking 4.2 overs to reach 50 against the West Indies at Trent Bridge.
Rohit Sharma's explosive start sets new record
Rohit kicked off India's record-breaking performance in style, smashing two sixes off the very first two balls. He started with a massive strike down the ground off Khaled Ahmed, followed by another over deep mid-wicket. Though he got out to Mehidy Hasan after scoring 23 runs from just 11 balls, Rohit's blitzkrieg start set the tone for India.
Fastest-ever team 100 in Tests
Although Mehidy Hasan ended Rohit's blitz in the fourth over, Jaiswal continued his exploits. He was joined by Shubman Gill as the duo took India to their 100 in just 10.1 overs. India broke their own record of the fastest-ever team 100 in Tests - 12.2 overs against West Indies, Port of Spain, 2023.
