India vs England, 2nd T20I: Visitors amass 164/6

After electing to field first, Team India did reasonably well against England in the second T20I on Sunday in Ahmedabad. On a much slower track this time as compared to the first T20I, England managed to score 164/6 in 20 overs. It will be a challenging ask for India as they need a win to square the five-match series. Here's the mid-innings report.

An eventful powerplay overs for England

India started off well as Bhuvneshwar Kumar got Jos Buttler dismissed for a golden duck of the third ball in the first over. Jason Roy then took charge and got some crucial boundaries. On a slower pitch, Roy and Dawid Malan did reasonably well in the powerplay overs as England managed 44. India used four bowlers in the PP overs.

Roy and Malan do well for the second wicket

Yuzvendra Chahal came on in the seventh over and after bowling four dot balls and a wide, Roy powered a shot through mid-wicket for a six. The next over saw Hardik Pandya concede 13 runs as England moved well. The two added 63 runs for the second wicket and helped England set the base. Malan complimented Roy, who took the charge in this partnership.

Roy dismissed in the 40s again, Indian spinners impress

Chahal got the crucial breakthrough of Malan in the ninth over but Roy stood tall, punishing the spinner by hitting two fours. After missing out on a fifty in the first encounter (49), Roy was dismissed for a well made 46. His innings helped England set the base. Meanwhile, Chahal and Washington Sundar got crucial breakthroughs. They claimed three wickets between them.

Surya and Ishan make their debuts for Team India

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan made their international debuts for Team India in T20Is. The Mumbai Indians stalwarts have been knocking on the door for quite some time now. Ishan will be opening the batting alongside KL Rahul as Shikhar Dhawan was dropped. Meanwhile, Surya comes in place of Axar Patel. He will be wanting to contribute in the middle order.

Indian bowlers shine at the death

Bhuvi conceded seven in the 16th as Pandya gave away just six runs in the next over. Shardul Thakur got the dangerous Eoin Morgan as Bhuvi bowled another tight over before Shardul excelled. India conceded 35 from the last five overs, besides getting two scalps.
