Batting records broken in 2018 Indian Premier League

The 10 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have seen plenty of records being amassed by batsmen. In the ongoing 11th edition of the tournament, several batting records of the previous years have been replaced by new ones. Batsmen have set new milestones for themselves in an exciting season that continues to enthrall fans. Here we look at the same.

When Kohli took over the proceedings from Raina

Virat Kohli started 2018 edition of the IPL with 4,418 runs in his bag. 14 matches and 530 runs later, he is now the highest run-getter in the history of the tournament with 4,948 runs. Suresh Raina held this position prior to the 11th edition, with 4,540 runs under his belt. He now trails Kohli by 78 runs.

    Uthappa joins 4000-club in IPL

The current Kolkata Knight Riders batsman, Robin Uthappa has been a regular feature in the IPL. Till now, he has played 163 matches across 11 seasons. Uthappa started the season with 3,735 runs and so far he has managed 346-runs this term and that helped him go past the 4000-run mark in IPL. He became only the sixth player to achieve this feat.

    Gayle amongst the records

Chris Gayle's 104* against SRH cemented his top spot in the list of number of centuries hit by individuals in IPL (6). He has slammed 27 sixes this term and with this, his overall tally jumped to 292. He can become second foreigner to go past 4,000 runs in IPL after David Warner. Gayle has 3,994 runs and needs just 6 in today's match.

    Records galore IPL 2018

MS Dhoni has hit 29 sixes this season. It is his highest in a single season of IPL. Suryakumar Yadav became the first Indian uncapped player to hit the most runs in an IPL season. He is currently on 500. KL Rahul slammed the fastest fifty in IPL (14 balls). Andre Russell's exploits see him having the highest overall strike-rate in IPL (178.29).
