Can CSK bounce back in IPL 2026? Squad analysis
What's the story
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, will enter the 2026 edition with a revamped approach. The move from experience to youth was evident during the mini-auction, where they went all out for talents like Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer. While the two youngsters bagged record deals, the Yellow Army secured their future by trading in Sanju Samson. Can the Super Kings win a sixth title in what could be MS Dhoni's last dance?

Information

Strengths
Much-improved batting line-up
CSK entered the IPL 2026 auction with the second-biggest purse (₹43.40 crore). They spent 28.40 crore only to sign spin-bowling all-rounder Prashant Veer and wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma. Unlike the previous season, where CSK lacked power-hitters in the Powerplay, they have the power of Samson, Mhatre, Dube, and Brevis, with skipper Gaikwad as the anchor. An in-form Sarfaraz, Kartik, and Veer could well emerge as their finishers. Add Dhoni's blitz in the final few balls, and the batting line-up looks dangerous.
Weaknesses
Is bowling the weak link?
Although CSK have banked on Kartik and Veer, they are yet to be tested in hot water. The Yellow Army, known for their spin attack, have Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad as their lead spinners. While Jadeja has been traded out, Ravichandran Ashwin has retired. Their pace battery is also loaded with impactful bowlers. However, they would have to consistently use variations to evade consistent striking.
