Five reasons why KKR will perform well in IPL 2019

Kolkata Knight Riders surprised everyone after a productive show in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The eastern giants finished third in the tournament and the youngsters gave a decent account of themselves. This time around, KKR have retained their core unit, besides bolstering the squad with utility players. We list five reasons why KKR will perform well in IPL 2019.

Youngsters will once again get the freedom to express themselves

KKR have built their base around Indian youngsters. These young players will be better prepared this term and use the conditions in their favor. 19-year-old Shubman Gill has already amassed 1,089 runs in nine Ranji Trophy matches with a best of 268. He could lead the pack. Young pacers Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti will add value with the ball.

An able leader in Dinesh Karthik will benefit KKR

Dinesh Karthik has vast experience of playing T20 cricket and his consistency is an important factor. DK led the team well in IPL 2018 and scored freely. He finished as their top run-scorer (498). DK knows how to apply the finishing touches and be the anchor while chasing. His captaincy has improved as well. DK's trust in the youngsters has to be lauded.

West Indian T20 stalwarts could brighten the campaign

KKR have always banked on West Indian superstars Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Both these players have been massive for the side. Narine, in particular, has excelled with the bat as well in the last two seasons. The franchise bought another West Indian player, Carlos Brathwaite this time. He is a strong player and adds many characteristics. The three players could brighten KKR's campaign.

KKR spinners in a league of their own

KKR's three ace spinners hold the key. The likes of Piyush Chawla, Narine and Kuldeep Yadav are experienced names. Kuldeep has grown from strength to strength in T20s and his impact for India has been massive. His wrist-spin would test most batsmen. Narine has always been among the wickets. He has been KKR's backbone. Chawla has the credentials to make a sound impact.

Decent additions in Denly, Ferguson could guide KKR

KKR have made some decent additions and the new players could have a say from the bench. Joe Denly is an experienced T20 player and can fill in when Chris Lynn departs. He can bowl quality spin as well. New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson is a genuine wicket-taker and brings match-winning attributes. He can be a guiding force for the Indian youngsters.
