Lankan skipper, coach admit to going against spirit of game

What's the story

Sri Lankan team skipper Dinesh Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and first team manager Asanka Gurusinha have accepted charges by the ICC for breaching the spirit of the game. The ICC had stated on Tuesday that the trio have been charged for breaching Article 2.3.1, which is a Level 3 offence. All Level 3 breaches carry an imposition of four to eight suspension points.

Incident

Trio had caused two-hour delay

These three were charged for their involvement in Sri Lanka's decision in refusing to take the field against West Indies in St Lucia in the second Test. As per the rule, a Level 3 offence, relates to "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game". The trio's decision had caused a two-hour delay. This happened post Chandimal was alleged of ball-tampering.

Chandimal's appeal to be heard today

The ICC has confirmed that Chairman of the ICC Code of Conduct Commission, The Hon Michael Beloff QC, will hear Chandimal's appeal. The hearing is expected to take place on Friday, June 22. Chandimal was found guilty of ball tampering and was handed a ban for one Test. He was fined 100% match fee and received two suspension points for the incident.
