What's the story

India edged past Bangladesh in a last-ball thriller to win the 2018 Nidahas Trophy by 4 wickets in Colombo on Sunday. India kept their 100% win-record, against Bangladesh in T20Is, intact. Despite being a second string team, the men in blue were better than both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, throughout the tournament. Here are key takeaways from the Nidahas Trophy.

Boss mode

Dinesh Karthik is Dhoni's true successor

There has been a lot of talk about Rishabh Pant taking over the reins from Dhoni. However, the youngster did not make the most of his chances and was replaced by KL Rahul. But Dinesh Karthik not only impressed us with his glove-work but also with his Dhoni-esque ability to clear the ropes as well. Need a last-ball six, you can now call DK.

Pacer scarcity

No decent backup for Bhuvi and Bumrah

The three Indian pacers, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj have been far from impressive. While Unadkat bagged 7 wickets in 4 matches, he achieved it at an economy of 9.92. Thakur has 6 wickets at an economy of 9.02 and Siraj got just one wicket in his only match. Indian selectors will have to find backup for Bhuvi and Bumrah.

Rising star

Washington Sundar has been the find of the series

Washington Sundar, who was awarded 'Player of the Series' award, is definitely one of the hottest prospects for India right now. The 18-year-old finished as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament and was the only bowler to have an economy of less than 6. What makes his feat even more impressive is that he bowled most of his overs during the opening powerplay.

On the rise

Bangladesh can no longer be considered minnows

Although Bangladesh failed to beat India yet again but the Tigers were impressive throughout the tournament. They may be 10th ranked team (T20I) in the world but they have carved their own fearless brand of cricket. Even Indian skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praise on them. They defeated Sri Lanka twice to reach the final of the series. The future looks bright for India's neighbours.

All-time low

Wake up call for Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan team has been in turmoil for a while now and this humiliating loss in the Nidahas Trophy is a wake-up call for the Islanders. Ever since the retirement of their stalwarts, the Lions have struggled to find their feet. Sri Lanka Cricket Board will have to act soon if they want to keep themselves relevant in the sport.
