What's the story

New Zealand's rising star Tim Robinson smoked a brilliant century in the opening T20I against Australia at Bay Oval, Tauranga. The 23-year-old replacement for an injured Rachin Ravindra played a key role in helping the hosts set a strong score (181/6). However, despite Robinson's heroics, New Zealand lost to Australia by six wickets. Meanwhile, here we look at NZ batters with T20I centuries versus Australia.

#1

Brendon McCullum - 116* in Christchurch

Brendon McCullum was the first Kiwi batter to smash a T20I hundred against the Aussies. Opening the innings, McCullum scored an unbeaten 116 to help New Zealand post 214/6 in the 2010 Christchurch T20I. He smashed 12 fours and eight sixes during his 56-ball stay as no other Kiwi batter could even touch the 40-run mark. Meanwhile, the game later got tied before the Black Caps prevailed in the Super Over.

#2

Martin Guptill - 105 in Auckland, 2018

Martin Guptill led the charge against the Aussies in the 2018 Auckland affair. Batting first, the hosts were off to a phenomenal start with Guptill recording a 132-run opening stand with Colin Munro (76). The former went on to score a brilliant 105 off 54 balls, a knock laced with six fours and nine sixes. His brilliance meant the Kiwis posted a massive 243/6, though Australia later chased down the target to script history.

#3

Tim Robinson - 106 in Tauranga, 2025

Robinson is the latest entrant on this list, thanks to his brilliance in the aforementioned Tauranga affair. NZ were off to a horrible start batting first, having been reduced to 6/3. However, Robinson's 92-run partnership alongside Daryl Mitchell (34) rescued the team. The former further dominated a 64-run stand with Bevon Jacobs (20) en route to his 106* off just 66 balls. Robinson smoked five sixes and six fours during his stay. However, the Aussies eventually prevailed in this fixture.
