What's the story

Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has added yet another feather to his already illustrious hat. With his 10th run in the second innings of the opening Test against South Africa at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, Jadeja went past 4,000 Test runs. One of the finest all-rounders ever, Jadeja is now among the four players with the Test double of 4,000 runs and 300 wickets.

Knock

A fighting 27 for Jadeja

Meanwhile, Jadeja smashed 27 off 45 balls during his stay, smashing three fours. Notably, this knock came in the game's second innings as SA were folded for 159/10 in the first. Jadeja's dismissal had left India at 171/6. Simon Harmer was the one to trap him. Nonetheless, the southpaw's knock at least made sure that India gained the first-innings lead.

Numbers

Here are his sensational numbers

Across 88 Tests for India, Jadeja has recorded 4,017 runs at 38.62. His tally includes six tons and 27 fifties. With the ball, he boasts 338 wickets at an average of 25.25 (5W: 15). The other all-rounders with at least 4,000 Test runs and 300-plus wickets are Ian Botham (5,200 and 383), Kapil Dev (5,248 and 434), and Daniel Vettori (4,531 and 362).

POTM

11 POTM awards in Tests

Jadeja has been named the Player of the Match (POTM) 11 times in Tests. This puts him on par with Rahul Dravid, who also has 11 such awards. The duo currently boast the joint second-most POTM Test awards for India, behind Sachin Tendulkar (14). Ravi Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Anil Kumble share the next spot on the list with 10 such awards apiece.
