What's the story

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has completed 11,000 runs in ODI cricket. Rohit reached the landmark against Bangladesh in India's opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. The 37-year-old touched the 11,000-run mark with his 12th run in the game. Rohit has become the second-fastest to 11,000 runs in ODI cricket. Here we look at his stellar stats.

Milestone

Rohit goes past Tendulkar; fourth Indian with this feat

As per ESPNcricinfo, Rohit completed 11,000 runs in his 261st ODI innings. He is now the second-fastest to this mark after Virat Kohli, who took just 222 innings for the same. Rohit even went past Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who completed 11,000 runs in 276 ODI innings. Overall, Rohit has become the fourth Indian to touch this mark, after Tendulkar, Kohli, and Sourav Ganguly.

Records

Second-most sixes in ODIs

Rohit is one of the most-destructive batters in ODI history. He currently has the second-most sixes in ODI history (338). He recently went past Chris Gayle's tally of 331 sixes. Rohit is now only behind Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, who currently has the most sixes in ODI cricket (351). The Indian skipper's tally of 631 international sixes is the most for any batter.

Legacy

One of the greatest openers

Rohit is among the greatest openers in ODI history. Initially a middle-order batter, the 37-year-old turned into an opener during the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, as MS Dhoni promoted him. This transformed the career of Rohit, who went on to hammer three double-centuries in ODI cricket. He owns the highest-ever individual score in ODI history, an audacious 264 against Sri Lanka from 2014.

1st innings

Bangladesh post a strong total

Despite losing five wickets for a mere 35 runs, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 228/10. The turnaround was largely due to a monumental 154-run partnership between centurion Towhid Hridoy (100) and Jaker Ali (68). Mohammed Shami claimed a fifer as Harshit Rana dismissed three batters. In reply, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 69 runs before the skipper departed.
