What's the story

South African all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy has raced to his maiden hundred in Test cricket. The left-handed batter touched the three-figure mark on Day 2 of the ongoing second and final Test against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Muthusamy put up a phenomenal show with the bat as SA went past 400 runs batting first. Here are his stats.

Knock

A fine hand from Muthusamy

Muthusamy arrived at number seven on Day 1 with the scorecard reading 201/5. Having been further reduced to 246/6, India looked in command. However, Muthusamy dented their plans by building an 88-run partnership with Kyle Verreynne (41). The southpaw, who reached his hundred on the second day's afternoon session, then took SA past 400 with a 90-plus partnership with Marco Jansen.

Stats

Third 50-plus score in the format

Muthusamy, who also owns 22 Test wickets at an average of 26.5, slammed his third 50-plus score in the format. He now has over 380 Test runs across eight games at an average of 50-plus. It must be noted that Muthusamy was not in the XI for the series opener. However, he has now made a magnificent impact.

First centurion in Guwahati

With this being the maiden Test match at Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Muthusamy has made history. He is now the first-ever centurion at this venue. According to Cricbuzz, Muthusamy is the third South African batter with a Test century from No. 7 or lower against India, joining Quinton de Kock (111, Visakhapatnam, 2019) and Lance Klusener (102*, Cape Town, 1997).

Information

Third 50-plus score in Asia

Notably, each of Muthusamy's three 50-plus scores in Tests have come in Asia. His previous best score of 89* came last month against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. The southpaw's maiden Test fifty was an unbeaten 68 against Bangladesh in Chattogram last year.
