South African centurion Senuran Muthusamy attains feats against India

South Africa spinner Senuran Muthusamy has brought up his maiden Test century. He reached the three-figure mark on Day 2 of the 2nd Test against India at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. Muthusamy, known for his left-arm spin, was added to the Proteas XI after missing the opener. Batting at No. 7, he shared valuable stands with Tony de Zorzi, Kyle Verreynne, and Marco Jansen.

How Muthusamy reached his century
Muthusamy came in at No. 7 as Wiaan Mulder's dismissal reduced SA to 201/5. With a brief stand with de Zorzi, he took the Proteas toward 250. Kyle Verreynne joined Muthusamy next as the duo propelled SA past 330. While Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Verreynne, Marco Jansen came in with a counter-attacking knock. With SA crossing the 400-run mark, Muthusamy completed his 192-ball century.

With this being the maiden Test match at Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Muthusamy has made history. He is now the first-ever centurion at this venue. According to Cricbuzz, Muthusamy is the third South African batter with a Test century from No. 7 or lower against India, joining Quinton de Kock (111, Visakhapatnam, 2019) and Lance Klusener (102*, Cape Town, 1997).

Third 50-plus score in Tests
Muthusamy, who also owns 22 Test wickets at an average of 26.5, slammed his maiden century in the format (three 50-plus scores). He now has over 380 Test runs at an average of 50-plus. It must be noted that Muthusamy was not in the XI for the series opener. However, he has now made a magnificent impact.
