What's the story

Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has crossed the landmark of 3,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He achieved this feat with his 11th run in the 2nd ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow on Wednesday. Having taken just 72 innings, Iyer is the joint second-fastest Indian to accomplish this feat. Iyer scored 26 runs versus Afghanistan as India posted 402/10 in 49.5 overs. Here's more.

Iyer equals Dhawan's record

As per ESPNcricinfo, Iyer took 72 innings and 78 matches to complete 3,000 ODI runs. He equaled former opener Shikhar Dhawan, who took 72 innings. Notably, Iyer and Dhawan are only behind Shubman Gill, who completed 3,000 ODI runs in 62 innings. Gill attained the landmark in the 1st ODI of the ongoing series. He hit a match-winning 84*.

Career 

Iyer averages 45.68 in ODIs

Iyer came into this contest with 2,989 runs under his belt. He needed 11 runs to reach the milestone. The batter averages 45.68 with his strike rate being just under 99 (98.56). Iyer has slammed five tons and 23 fifties in ODIs, with his best score being 128*. He scored 12 runs in the 1st ODI versus the Afghans in Dharamsala.
