Famous brother duos in Indian Cricket

In India cricket is treated like a religion and only a few talented players get the chance to represent their home country in the international circuit. However, there are some 'lucky' families which have produced not one but two players for India. Let us have a look at some of these famous siblings who have represented India.

The very 'first' brothers in the Indian team

The first captain of the Indian cricket team, Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu (CK), and his brother Cottari Subbanna Nayudu (CS) both represented India though for a short period of time from 1932 to 1936. CK and CS played 7 and 11 Test matches for India respectively, and were known for their strokes. CK captained India in four Tests

Ali Brothers- Prominent figures in Indian cricket

Both Wazir and Nazir Ali were part of India's first cricket team which toured England in 1932. With both being attacking batsmen, they combined played almost 200 first class matches and scored more than 10,000 runs. They finally got settled in Pakistan post independence.

Second generation of India's cricketing family

Sons of legendary cricketer Lala Amarnath, Mohinder and Surinder were one of the best batsmen of their generation. While Surinder's career lasted only 10 Tests and three ODIs, Mohinder represented India for almost 20 years (69 Tests and 85 ODIs). He was the 'Man of the Series' in the 1983 World Cup, when India won the trophy for the first time.

The brothers in the modern era

Younger brother Irfan made his debut before Yusuf, and established himself as one of the best pace bowlers of his generation. On the other hand, Yusuf made a name as a power hitter and a handy off-spinner. However, both the brothers lost their place in the national team in 2012 after a series of poor performances and injuries.

    Edulji Sisters

Behroze and Diana Edulji are probably the only sister-duo in the Indian cricket history. While Behroze played just one Test match for India, Diana went on to earn the title of the greatest Indian woman cricketer of all time.
