Yashasvi Jaiswal joins Dravid, Manjrekar in this unwanted list
What's the story
Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 175 runs on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies in New Delhi. The young batter fell short of his third double century after a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill. The unfortunate run-out not only denied him a major personal milestone but also put him in an unwanted list with Rahul Dravid and Sanjay Manjrekar.
Record
Manjrekar leads the list
Starting the day at 173, Jaiswal could only add two runs to his total before getting run out. His stellar innings now ranks among the highest individual scores by Indian batsmen ending in a run-out. Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar leads the list with a score of 218 against Pakistan in Lahore in 1989.
Rankings
Jaiswal places 4th on the list
Following Manjrekar is Rahul Dravid with scores of 217 at The Oval in 2002 and 180 in Kolkata in 2001. Jaiswal's score of 175 against West Indies now places him fourth on the list, ahead of Vijay Hazare's score of 155 against England in Mumbai (Brabourne Stadium) in 1951. Dravid features with his score of 144 against Sri Lanka at Kanpur in 2009.
Achievement
Jaiswal's stellar innings
Despite the unfortunate dismissal, Jaiswal's innings was a remarkable display of skill and patience. He batted through the first day of the Test match, scoring his seventh Test century and equaling Graeme Smith's record for most centuries as an opener before turning 24. The young batter also matched Virat Kohli's unique feat of scoring over 150 runs twice on Day 1 of a Test match in India.
