Zlatan Ibrahimovic to stay in MLS despite Milan interest
Football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks set to stay at MLS side LA Galaxy, despite interest from former club AC Milan. This was confirmed by the Italian club's sporting director Leonardo. Milan wanted to get the veteran striker back to the San Siro in the January transfer window, but their hopes have been dashed. Here is more on the same.
According to a report in Sky Sports Italia, Leonardo said, "Ibrahimovic will not return to Milan. "He gave his word to the LA Galaxy that he would renew his contract. We thought about his return and he thought about it too, but he's keeping his word and will remain in MLS". The Serie A side is set to shift focus on Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas.
"He always said from the start that if the LA Galaxy satisfied his conditions, then he would remain. They are doing that and he will stay there. It would have been a marvellous story and a strong signal, but it isn't possible", said Leonardo.
The former Manchester United player joined LA Galaxy in early 2018. He left PSG in 2016 and joined Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford. Zlatan did not disappoint during his stint at Manchester United, having scored a total of 29 goals in a total of 53 appearances. He won the EFL Cup and the Europa League with the Premier League outfit.
Zlatan has been in superb for LA Galaxy. He has netted 22 goals in just 27 matches so far for the club. He has a contract at LA Galaxy through the 2019 season, but it is going to be extended. Ibra stayed two years at Milan and scored an impressive 56 goals in 85 matches. He left for PSG in 2012.
