Iranian president writes open letter to Americans
What's the story
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has addressed the American public in an open letter, questioning the motives behind the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran. He asked if President Donald Trump's "America First" policy is truly a priority for the United States government. "Exactly which of the American people's interests are truly being served by this war?" he wrote.
War crimes
Pezeshkian rejected portrayals of Tehran as a threat
"Does the massacre of innocent children, the destruction of cancer-treatment pharmaceutical facilities, or boasting about bombing a country 'back to the stone ages' serve any purpose other than further damaging the United States' global standing?" Pezeshkian asked. He rejected portrayals of Tehran as a threat, citing two attacks on Iran during nuclear talks: one by Israel in June 2025 and another at the end of February this year.

Accusations
US war crimes have regional consequences, says Iranian president
Pezeshkian said Iran's vital infrastructure, including energy and industrial facilities, directly targets the Iranian people. "Beyond constituting a war crime, such actions carry consequences that extend far beyond Iran's borders," he said. "They generate instability, increase human and economic costs, and perpetuate cycles of tension, planting seeds of resentment that will endure for years. This is not a demonstration of strength; it is a sign of strategic bewilderment and an inability to achieve a sustainable solution."
Motives questioned
Is Israel manufacturing an Iranian threat, asks Pezeshkian
The Iranian president also questioned if the Trump administration was manipulated by Israel into launching the war against Iran on February 28. Pezeshkian asked if Israel is trying to divert global attention from its actions toward Palestinians by manufacturing an Iranian threat. He asked if Israel aims to fight Iran at the cost of American lives and resources. This letter comes just hours after Trump addressed the nation, claiming Washington's "core strategic objectives" in the Iran war were nearing completion.
