Pakistan: 2 separate terror incidents leave 9 dead
What's the story
Three members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) outfit were killed by Pakistani security forces in Balochistan on Monday. The incident took place after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive at the main entrance of the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Nokkundi, Dawn reported. Following this, at least six armed militants entered the premises, leading to a quick response from security forces who launched a clearance operation.
Rising violence
TTP intensifies attacks after ceasefire collapse
The TTP, which is banned and labeled "Fitna-al-Khawarij" by the state, has ramped up its attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since breaking a ceasefire with the government in November 2022. On Saturday alone, Quetta and Dera Murad Jamali witnessed seven blasts, one of which damaged a railway track. This led to the suspension of train services.
Grim revelations
Human rights report highlights state-sponsored violence
A recent report by the Paank human rights organization has highlighted alleged "state-sponsored violence" in Balochistan, ANI reported. The report documented 87 enforced disappearances in October, mostly during military operations. It also confirmed 20 extrajudicial killings, many of which involved previously missing persons. Activists have termed this a "kill-and-dump" pattern.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
