Pakistani woman seeks Modi's intervention as husband prepares Delhi wedding
What's the story
A Pakistani woman, Nikita Nagdev, has sought intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging her husband abandoned her and is planning a second marriage in Delhi. According to Nikita, the couple married on January 26, 2020, in Karachi according to Hindu customs. Her husband, Vikram, who lives in Indore on a long-term visa, brought her to India the following month. However, their relationship took a turn in July, when Vikram abandoned her at the Attari border over a "visa technicality."

Nagdev alleges mistreatment by in-laws, husband's affair
She was sent back to Pakistan after that. "I kept requesting him to call me to India, but he refused every time," she said. Nikita claims that after returning to Pakistan, she was mistreated by her in-laws and learned about Vikram's affair with a relative. When she confronted her father-in-law, he allegedly dismissed her concerns, saying, "Boys have affairs, nothing can be done."
Legal proceedings
Nagdev's complaint leads to mediation attempt
In January 2025, Nikita learned that Vikram was planning a second marriage in Delhi and filed a written complaint. The Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre, authorized by the Madhya Pradesh High Court, took up her case. Notices were issued to both Vikram and his alleged fiancee, but mediation efforts failed. The Centre's report on April 30, 2025 recommended deportation for Vikram, as neither is an Indian citizen.
Further recommendations
Indore Social Panchayat also recommends deportation
Nikita had approached the Indore Social Panchayat in May 2025, which also recommended Vikram's deportation. Indore Collector Ashish Singh confirmed an inquiry was ordered and action would be taken based on its findings. In her video, Nikita said, "If justice is not served today, women will lose faith in justice. Many girls face physical and mental abuse in their marital homes. I request everyone to stand with me."
