PM Modi receives highest civilian award by the Russian government

On Friday, the Russian government awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with their highest civilian award, 'Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle'. The decree was signed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin. This has marked the seventh major international award that PM Modi received since 2016. Earlier this month, he was awarded the highest civilian award by the United Arab Emirates.

What is the Order of 'St Andrew the Apostle'?

In 1698, the Russian Empire first established the highest order of chivalry, the 'Order of St Andrew the Apostle'. It was discontinued under the Soviet reign (USSR) and was later re-established in 1998.

PM conferred for promoting partnership between India and Russia

The Russian Embassy in India on its Twitter handle shared the news. The tweet read, "On April 12, Narendra Modi was decorated with the Order of St Andrew the Apostle for exceptional services in promoting special & privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India and friendly relations between the Russian and Indian peoples." Meanwhile, here's the list of all major awards received by PM.

Modi received Seoul Peace Prize in October 2018

On April 4, the PM received the highest civilian award by the United Arab Emirates, Zayed Medal, for his efforts in boosting the bilateral ties of the two nations, India and UAE. Last year in October, PM Modi became the fourteenth recipient of the Seoul Peace Prize for his contribution to the economic growth and for shrinking the differences between the rich and poor.

Was honored with UN Champions of the Earth Award 2018

Moreover, in September of 2018, the United Nation Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, presented Modi with the highest environmental honor of UN, 'UN Champions of the Earth Award 2018'. Further, for promoting strong relations between the two nations, India and Palestine, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rewarded PM Modi with the 'Grand Collar of the State of Palestine' in February 2018.

Modi marked two international awards in 2016

During his visit to Afghanistan in June 2016 to inaugurate the Afghanistan-India Friendship Dam, PM Modi was conferred with the highest civilian honor of the country, Amir Amanullah Khan Award, by Afghanistan President, Ashraf Ghani. Earlier in April 2016, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia presented him with 'King Abdulaziz Sash', Saudi's highest civilian honor, at the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia.
