Vladimir Putin to visit India on December 4-5

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a state visit to India from 4 to 5 December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced. During the visit, Putin will hold talks with Modi and the president will also host a banquet in the Russian leader's honor.

"The forthcoming state visit will provide an opportunity for the leadership of India and Russia to review progress in bilateral relations, set the vision for strengthening the 'Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership' and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest," the MEA said. This announcement comes after Putin's top aide Nikolay Patrushev met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting focused on key aspects of the India-Russia relationship ahead of Putin's visit.

Annual summit
India and Russia hold these summits annually, alternating between the two countries to review the gamut of ties. So far, 22 such meetings have been held. Modi had last travelled to Moscow for the summit in July 2024, while Putin visited New Delhi in 2021. According to PTI, the talks could focus on deepening cooperation in sectors like defense and security, trade, and energy.
