Ford Mustang's 60th anniversary celebrated with immersive experience in LA
What's the story
Ford is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its iconic Mustang with an immersive experience in Los Angeles. The event, titled "American Icon: A Mustang Immersive Experience," is being held in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The exhibition takes visitors through seven themed rooms, each showcasing a different aspect of the Mustang's history and cultural significance.
Experience details
First 2 rooms of the exhibition
The first room of the exhibition features a timeline of the original Mustang's design process, complete with sketches and images of other proposals. The second room offers a brief history of the Mustang from 1964 to today, featuring interviews with Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr, TV host Jay Leno, movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and more.
Cultural significance
Third and 4th room
The third room of the exhibition features a 1964 Mustang notchback in an all-white room, with projectors displaying computer-animated videos on all four walls and floor. This immersive experience takes visitors from the original Mustang assembly line in Michigan to the 1964 World's Fair, where they stand on a turntable as it spins around them. The fourth room features a brand-new Mustang Dark Horse on a turntable at its center-rear.
Movie cars
Fifth and 6th room
The fifth room of the exhibition features Mustangs from popular films like Transformers, Kick-Ass, and the real Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds. The sixth room has a timeline of Mustang racing since the 1960s, which inspired the GTD. A Mustang GT3 racecar is on display in the lobby when you first enter the exhibit building.
Interactive experience
Last room of the exhibition
The exhibition also features an interactive display about suggested road trips and one that lets you hear what each generation of Mustang sounds like. The seventh room offers a powered seat that leans and tilts with the video, making you feel as if you're in the car racing through a dystopian city. Fans blow air at you to simulate movement; smoke wafts from the floor when doing a burnout; and water spritzes your face when going through puddles.
