Lexus LFA Concept previews the brand's upcoming electric supercar
What's the story
Lexus has unveiled a new concept car, the LFA Concept, marking its first use of the iconic LFA badge since 2012. The original Lexus LFA was a rare gem, with only 500 units produced between 2010 and 2012. It was powered by a naturally aspirated V10 engine that revved up to an astonishingly high 9,500 RPM. However, this latest iteration is not yet ready for production and comes with some major changes.
Electric transformation
LFA Concept: A fully electric evolution
The LFA Concept is a fully electric vehicle, a departure from its predecessor's internal combustion engine. Lexus has not revealed any details about the performance or battery configuration of this concept car. However, the company did clarify that "the model name 'LFA' is not bound to vehicles powered by internal combustion engines." It further explained that this name represents a vehicle embodying technologies its engineers should preserve and pass on to future generations.
Design details
LFA Concept's design and dimensions
The LFA Concept features a new lightweight, high-rigidity aluminium chassis. This same chassis was also used in the production Toyota GR GT and GT3 race car. The design of the new LFA is almost identical to the Sport Concept unveiled earlier this year in Monterey, with only minor tweaks here and there. The concept measures 4,690mm long, 2,040mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,725mm—making it significantly larger than its predecessor (4,505mm long and 1,895mm wide).
Cabin design
Interior features of the LFA Concept
The interior of the LFA Concept is a cockpit-like design with aggressive detailing that wraps around the driver. Instead of a traditional instrument cluster, it has a cluster of screens without any central infotainment screen. While we don't know much about what the production version will look like or when it will be released, this concept gives us an idea of what's to come in terms of design and technology.
