SKODA has no plans to launch EVs in India
What's the story
Czech automaker SKODA has announced plans to introduce more of its global nameplates in the Indian market. The move is aimed at catering to a wider range of customers. However, the company has no immediate plans for electric vehicles (EVs) in India. SKODA Auto India Brand Director Ashish Gupta said they will keep their basic portfolio of locally produced cars next year.
Market approach
What models will be imported?
Gupta further revealed that SKODA plans to introduce more global, iconic cars in India next year. However, he did not specify which models would be imported. The company currently sells locally produced models such as Kushaq and Slavia along with imported ones like Octavia and Kodiaq in the Indian market.
Sales growth
Skoda sets new sales record in India
SKODA is having its best-ever year in India, having sold 61,607 units from January to October 2025. The company has already crossed its previous annual sales record of 53,721 units in 2022. Gupta expects the sales momentum created by GST reforms to continue into November and December. He also revealed plans to expand the Kushaq range with more trims next year while updating Kushaq and Slavia models.
EV plans
EV strategy and market uncertainties
When asked about SKODA's EV strategy, Gupta said they have a large global EV portfolio. However, he added that market uncertainties such as FTA discussions and the EV policy make it difficult to have a stable plan. He emphasized that while there may be delays in electrification, any serious manufacturer cannot ignore the importance of EVs in India.
