What's the story

Volvo is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in India with the upcoming launch of two new models: the EX90 SUV and the ES90 sedan. The company currently offers three EVs in India, namely, the EX30, EC30, and EC40. The new launches will be part of Volvo's flagship electric offerings in India.

Model details

EX90 SUV: A glimpse into the future of electric mobility

The EX90 SUV will be Volvo's first model to come with an 800V architecture. It will be available in single-motor RWD, twin-motor AWD, and AWD Performance variants with ranges of up to 608km. The design is typical of Volvo - clean and understated, while the interior is all about minimalism. It also comes with Level 2 ADAS but its LiDAR-based sensor suite can enable much higher levels of autonomy in the future.

Model features

ES90 sedan: A blend of style and technology

The ES90 sedan will compete with the BMW i5 in India. It is built on a new SPA2 platform and comes with an 800V electrical system that supports fast charging of up to 350kW. The design is similar to the EX90, featuring 'Thor hammer' LEDs, a closed grille, and a roof-mounted LiDAR hump. Inside, it has a 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen with 5G connectivity and OTA updates as well as a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system.

Shared technology

Volvo's EVs to share battery pack

Both the EX90 and ES90 are expected to share a similar battery pack. The 106kWh battery on the ES90 delivers a WLTP range of around 700km. The launches are likely to take place by the third quarter of 2026, further strengthening Volvo's electric vehicle presence in India.
