Flipkart to set up India's biggest logistics park near Bengaluru

Flipkart has turned the focus of its tagline 'Ab Har Wish Hogi Poori' on itself: it's setting up India's biggest facility near Bengaluru. The integrated logistics facility in a 100-acre area will accommodate several warehouses. "This'll be Flipkart's single-largest investment in the foreseeable future," said Amitesh Jha, head of Flipkart's logistics-arm eKart. Without revealing the exact investment, he quoted "hundreds of millions of dollars."

Park not for faster delivery process but also for jobs

Flipkart has not acquired the land yet, but the process is set to start soon. By 2019, it will have 1.5 million sqft of warehousing space, and 4.5 million sqft in the next few years. The upcoming park will be the logistics hub of the Southern states. By 2020, it will employ 5,000 people directly and create another 15,000 indirect job opportunities, Flipkart said.

Logistics park talks of our ambition, says Flipkart

Flipkart's immediate rival Amazon holds the current position of possessing India's largest warehouse in Telangana, which spans 400,000 sqft. About its new acquisition, Flipkart said that it indicates their ambition to grow. Among areas of investment for the company in the near future, Jha mentioned land acquisition, "the kind of facilities that we build," and integrating technology into the new warehouses.

    Flipkart vs Amazon

According to Business Standard, Flipkart has 21 centers in nine regions and is planning to move into 25 regions in the next 12-18 months. Meanwhile, Amazon India currently had 41 fulfilment centers in over 13 states, with nearly 13 million cubic feet of storage space.
