How Air India is making your travel to Canada easier
What's the story
Tata-owned Air India has announced the revival of its codeshare agreement with fellow Star Alliance member, Air Canada. The strategic partnership, effective from December 2, will provide travelers with more flight options and strengthen the air connectivity between India and Canada. Under this agreement, Air India customers will get easy access to six Canadian destinations beyond its current routes through Vancouver and London Heathrow.
Travel advantages
Enhanced connectivity and benefits for passengers
The renewed codeshare agreement allows Air India to place its 'AI' designator code on Air Canada-operated flights. This includes routes from Vancouver to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, and Halifax; as well as from London Heathrow to Vancouver and Calgary. Passengers with connecting flights operated by both airlines can now travel on a single ticket with a unified baggage allowance.
Indian connectivity
Air Canada customers gain access to Indian cities
The renewed partnership also benefits Air Canada's customers by providing domestic connectivity in India. They can now fly to Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kochi via Delhi, as well as to Delhi and Mumbai via London Heathrow. This move is expected to enhance travel options for passengers traveling between India and Canada.
Loyalty benefits
Frequent flyers can earn and redeem points
Frequent flyers on both airlines can continue to earn and redeem points/miles. Elite status holders of Air India's Maharaja Club loyalty program can also enjoy the Star Alliance Gold benefits with Air Canada-operated flights. These include the priority services, extra baggage allowance, and also complimentary airport lounge access. The codeshare agreement is subject to regulatory approvals and will be progressively made available for sale through the airlines' respective booking channels and travel agents worldwide.
